Electronic Sound
Originally released in May 1969 on Apple Recordsā experimental Zapple imprint, Electronic Sound stands as one of the most radical and intriguing solo statements from George Harrison. Created during a period of deep curiosity about avant-garde composition and emerging synthesiser technology, the album captures Harrison exploring the possibilities of the Moog IIIp synthesiser in two expansive, long-form pieces.
Zapple was launched as Appleās outlet for āmore freaky soundsā ā a space for sonic experimentation beyond traditional pop structures. Alongside John Lennon and Yoko Onoās Unfinished Music No. 2: Life With the Lions, Electronic Sound became one of only two releases on the short-lived label before it was shut down, making it a fascinating artefact from the late Beatles era.
The albumās cover art, painted by Harrison himself, depicts his Moog IIIp ā the very instrument later used on several tracks on Abbey Road. Each side of the LP features a sprawling electronic composition, documenting Harrisonās hands-on experimentation at a time when synthesised music was still in its infancy.
This 2026 reissue is pressed on classic black vinyl, offering a renewed opportunity to experience one of the earliest explorations of electronic sound by a major rock artist ā a bold, forward-thinking chapter in George Harrisonās remarkable legacy.
